Brazilian death metal vets Sepultura will release their 12th studio album this coming June. Entitled Kairos, it is Sepultura’s first album with Nuclear Blast Records, and is due out on June 24th in Europe, but North American fans will have to wait until July 12th. Roy Z. (Judas Priest, Halford, Bruce Dickinson) produced Kairos, which was recorded at Sepultura’s normal spot, Trama Studios in São Paulo, Brazil.

James LaBrie, vocalist of legendary progressive metal band Dream Theater, recently told Rock Radio (U.K.) that mixing of their new album will begin by the end of May. The as-yet-unnamed follow-up to their 2009 album Black Clouds & Silver Linings is still being tracked at the moment, with LaBrie and keyboardist/sound designer Jordan Rudess finishing up their parts.

Christian rock vets 12 Stones are gearing up to release their fourth studio album this summer. The band, comprised of vocalist Paul McCoy, guitarists Eric Weaver and Justing Rimer, and drummer Michael McManus plan to release Only Human on August 23rd with the Executive Music Group label via distributers Fontana/Universal.

Metal legends Slayer are set to release a new/old live DVD this summer. While Dead Skin Mask is a new release, the performance occurred almost a ten years ago, in 2002 at the Hultsfred Festival in metal-heavy Sweden. According to BraveWords.com, the DVD is due out on June 21st from Rock Tapes/IDS/Fontana Distribution.

Levon Helm, legendary singer of The Band, will donate a portion of every Ramble at the Ryman CD or DVD sold to the Americana Music Association, a not for profit group. “They are one of the few outfits that support great music. We gotta help ’em,” Helm said in a statement. This is the first time an artist has played a concert to raise funds for the association and the first time an artist has donated portions of CD/DVD sales to AMA.

There appears to be a communication breakdown within rock legends Aerosmith. Singer Steven Tyler, currently serving as a judge on the American Idol, announced that the band would be performing on the finale of the long-running hit show, but guitarist Joe Perry is saying otherwise.

Surtur Rising was released on March 29th, 2011, and debuted at a solid No. 34 on the Billboard 200 chart with 15,000 in first week sales, eclipsing their previous effort, Twilight of the Thunder God (W/Dvd) (Dig) , which sold 11,000 to debut at No. 48. Released by Metal Blade Records, the ten-song epic battlefield that is Surtur Rising is named after Surtur, the head fire giant and oldest being in Norse mythology.
