Gulf Coast Records announces the signing of New Orleans-based artists Jason Ricci and Joe Krown, and will release their debut duo album, City Country City, on October 22. Harmonica player/singer Jason Ricci is a multiple Blues Music Award-winner, while organ/piano player Joe Krown has legendary Crescent City credentials and is currently the keyboardist in Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s band.

Produced by The Immediate Family and recorded over three days at Jackson Browne’s Los Angeles studio, the new album also features two bonus tracks: live versions of the Danny Kortchmar/Jackson Browne collaboration “Somebody’s Baby” and Warren Zevon’s “Johnny Strikes Up the Band.”

For fifty years John McCutcheon has toured the world with the exception of the past year and a half. Without planes to catch, soundchecks to make, concert halls and clubs to fill, he stayed home and wrote – a lot. He composed his last recording, Cabin Fever: Songs from the Quarantine, in a mere three weeks but he didn’t stop there.

More often than not, it seems a musical group’s signature is defined by the vocalist up front. But as much as the legendary group Jethro Tull goes, Ian Anderson’s melodic grizzled vocals and flute gymnastics offered gripping definition, it’s the ripping crunch of Martin Barre’s lead guitar work and his ability to marinate Tull’s songs with emotional heft, are what turns our heads and grabs our guts with sinewy twists, turns and head-on collisions.

Recently, Rick heard about the 80 person capacity Blue Wing Frog restaurant in Front Royal, Virginia whose owners wanted musicians who wrote and performed their own songs. Some traditional-roots songs were cool too, given the Piedmont location, as well as the historical local culture of grassroots music was the music of the region.
