It was 1973 when the Steve Miller Band released their 8th recording, The Joker. The album would go platinum and provide Miller and his band their first commercial success, reaching #2 on the Billboard charts. Little did they know then, that the title track would manage to weave itself not only into the musical lexicon, but into the fabric of American pop culture.

In what many hope will become an annual summer tour tradition, Peter Frampton’s Guitar Circus brought fans across the land, not only the incredible joy filled performances that Frampton is known for, but he would meet up with some of the biggest names to ever pick up a guitar in different cities and regions; some advertised, some a surprise.

The Cult’s Ian Astbury yelled from Roseland Ballroom’s stage, “Put down your cell phones, your 238 loser Facebook followers don’t want to see your blurry videos. This is a not social media event, this is live… this is rock n’ roll”. And that’s what fans got, two hours of hard driving, riff blazing rock n’ roll.

American hard rock icons KISS stormed their way into The Amway Center this past Friday, the first U.S. date on the band’s 2013 Monster tour. Taking no prisoners, KISS is prepared to rock the nation unlike ever before with a maelstrom of pyrotechnics, stage props and engaging onstage antics.

Gigantour touched down in New York City at none other than the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom on August 7th. The opulent venue was originally constructed as an Opera House in 1906, but tonight’s show would be a much different type of music than it was a designed for, a music that will rock the old ballroom off its foundation and possibly level it.

Guitar virtuoso Peter Frampton hits the stage and delivers a set list comprised of his greatest hits and fan favorite deep tracks with Peter Frampton – Live In Detroit . The hailed classic rocker made his debut as a member of the group Humble Pie before branching out on his own as a solo artist, and in the process of doing so created over two dozen records and a plethora of heavily circulated anthems.

If there was ever a time to discover, or rediscover, Iceland’s post-rock ambassadors, Sigur Rós, it is now, with the recent release of their album Kveikur. The band’s seventh album, it is marked by the departure of keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, who had been on since before the group’s second album, the groundbreaking Ágætis Byrjun.

Clocking in at 190 pages, Rush: The Illustrated History from Martin Popoff is a worthy addition to the Voyageur Press line of illustrated books [previous installments have paid tribute to Zeppelin, Queen, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and others].

One of the quintessential classic rock bands, Styx has been playing the music scene for over three decades with their signature combination of distortion guitars, dominative synthesizer playing, and some of the best harmonious group vocals in the genre.
