Review: Peter Frampton – Live in Detroit DVD Re-Issued

By: William Clark

FramptonLiveinDetroitGuitar virtuoso Peter Frampton hits the stage and delivers a set list comprised of his greatest hits and fan favorite deep tracks with Peter Frampton – Live In Detroit.

The hailed classic rocker  made his debut as a member of the group Humble Pie before branching out on his own as a solo artist, and in the process of doing so created over two dozen records and a plethora of heavily circulated anthems.

So, for the crowd attending the show that night at the Pine Knob Amphitheater back in 1999, they were prepared for a classic rock power hour.

Peter could play virtually any song in his expansive catalogue and it would be a memorable show, but he makes a conscious effort to include all of the hits that brought him into the eyes of the mainstream audience. This, of course, includes the timeless ballad “Baby, I Love Your Way”, and the famous voice box work Mr. Frampton does in “Do You Feel Like We Do”.

The entire lineup of Bob Mayo [keyboards, guitars and vocals], John Regan [bass], Chad Cromwell [drums], and Frampton give a dazzling performance documented on the DVD release, performing each song with masterful note-for-note accuracy to the delight of the audience. Every anticipated solo note and group vocal melody is played with sheer perfection, which makes for an enjoyable at-home listening and viewing experience.

From there, other prime selections performed include “Show Me The Way”, the contemporary rock classic “Lines On My Face”, and the heavy hitting “I Don’t Need No Doctor”. The DVD was initially issued many years ago and eventually found its way to the clearance bin, then out of circulation.

Thankfully, Peter Frampton – Live In Detroit has been recently reissued by Eagle Rock Productions and is now available for avid fans to go and once again, enjoy the masterful musicianship of Frampton and crew.

This live performance DVD also features two noteworthy special bonus features; an exclusive interview with the man himself, and a previously unseen rehearsal performance of “Boot It Up” from the FCA! 35 Tour. Any established fan of Peter Frampton’s earlier outings should pumped about this new edition and be able to easily appreciate this live release, and so it comes highly recommended.
