Mastodon have announced that they hit the road in Europe, performing both major festivals, including Pinkpop, Sonisphere, and Nova Rock, as well as headlining shows beginning May 23rd and continuing through the end of June. Mastodon will also perform at both the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the U.K. in August.

According to Joshua Paul Vittek and Associates the Bay Area music community is coming together to produce “A Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music” for the legendary San Francisco guitarist, who passed away recently from complications of prostate cancer.

Electric guitar manufacturer Oktober Guitars announced today the new DevilWing bass guitar, their latest addition to the Von Frankenstein Series. The DevilWing is designed by legendary Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, who has been working closely with Oktober Guitars for the better part of two years to design instruments that are not only eye catching but also play and sound like no other.

Van Halen, Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductees and one of the most influential rock bands to come out of the ’70s and ’80s, are announcing their return to the concert stage with a 2012 North American tour. According to a press release, the announcement was made late last night during a performance at the intimate Café Wha? in NYC. Known around the world for their stage acumen and explosiveness, the legendary rock band will begin their tour on February 18th, with Kool & The Gang joining Van Halen for some dates.

As a lifelong Rush fan and a nascent (“wanna-be”) drummer, it was with no small level of excitement that I popped in the new Neil Peart instructional DVD, Taking Center Stage. With a track listing comprised of Rush’s 2010/2011 “Time Machine” tour set list, which featured the entire Moving Pictures album, this release is a fulfillment of many Rush fans’ long-held wishes, as it offers a chance to see what Peart is actually doing on many classic Rush songs.
