For fifty years John McCutcheon has toured the world with the exception of the past year and a half. Without planes to catch, soundchecks to make, concert halls and clubs to fill, he stayed home and wrote – a lot. He composed his last recording, Cabin Fever: Songs from the Quarantine, in a mere three weeks but he didn’t stop there.

Recently, Rick heard about the 80 person capacity Blue Wing Frog restaurant in Front Royal, Virginia whose owners wanted musicians who wrote and performed their own songs. Some traditional-roots songs were cool too, given the Piedmont location, as well as the historical local culture of grassroots music was the music of the region.

Today, Lindsey Buckingham has announced his forthcoming self-titled LP due out September 17, 2021 on Reprise, alongside the first single, “I Don’t Mind.” Lindsey Buckingham is his first solo release since 2011’s Seeds We Sow and follows his departure from Fleetwood Mac.

Hilton Valentine, The Animals’ original guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, died on January 29, 2021 at his Connecticut home. He was 77 years old.Born on May 21, 1943, near Newcastle, England, Hilton first picked up a guitar after being caught up in the skiffle craze that was spearheaded by Lonnie Donegan, whose cover of “Rock Island Line” became a Top 10 hit in both England and America.

Following his last release, To Everyone In All the World: a Celebration of Pete Seeger, in honor of the folk icon’s 100th birthday, he had stockpiled over 30 new songs as a pool for a new album of McCutcheon originals. “But that pesky virus kind of put a kink in the notion of gathering a bunch of my pals and going into a windowless recording studio for days on end. In early 1969 Bob Dylan called and asked me to take a picture for the back of his new album, Nashville Skyline. He had the front cover already picked out—a picture of the skyline of Nashville, where he had recorded the album.One afternoon, I went over to his place. As we left the house, he grabbed a hat, and asked, “Do you think we could use this?” I had no idea if it would be good or not, so I told him “Take it, and we’ll see.”
