Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks Ask Fans To Help Replace “Blowjob” in Radio Edit Of New Single

By: Staff

Stephen Malkmus, frontman of the recently reunited Pavement and indie rock band Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, needs help replacing a naughty word for the radio edit of the Jicks’ new single, “Senator.” Since “blowjob” isn’t exactly radio fare, fans are being asked to be creative in coming up with a replacement.

According to NME, the line in question, when uncensored, is “I know what the senator wants – what the senator wants is a blowjob.” Fans who have good ideas for a different noun to replace “blowjob” can go to Whatdoesthesenatorwant.com to participate in the online competition.

The winning mad lib will be sung by Malkmus on the radio version of the single, which hits airwaves in September, and the person who came up with it will be sent a one-of-a-kind 7” vinyl with both the uncensored and radio-friendly version from Matador, the Jicks’ current record label. Entries must be submitted by August 23rd, and the winner will be announced on September 15th.

“Senator” is a single from Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks’ upcoming album, entitled Mirror Traffic, which comes out via Matador on August 22nd. Mirror Traffic was recorded over the last 2-3 years with indie giant Beck producing and recording.

According to Malkmus, “This record is relatively approachable. Beck and I were both burned out on the heavy rocking style, and playing to the strengths of a melody seemed like a way to go.”
