Phil Selway “King of Limbs Wasn’t Going to be an Immediate Record”

By: Staff

In a short five minutes of free time at Liverpool SoundCity this past weekend, Radiohead drummer Phil Selway had a quick chat with the folks at Drowned in Sound. In that short span, he talked about his budding solo career and Thom Yorke’s dancing in Radiohead’s “Lotus Flower” video, but intriguingly, he dropped that The King of Limbs wasn’t intended to be their follow-up to 2007’s In Rainbows.

“With King of Limbs, we all knew that it wasn’t going to be an immediate record but a lot of great records have been 38 minutes long,” he said. “It’s that old chestnut of a grower.”

He continued about Radiohead’s writing methods: “Every record that we’ve done has been a reaction to the last one and King of Limbs carried on that tradition for us.”
