Paul Reed Smith Guitars started Experience PRS four years ago in order to gather together the company’s distributors, dealers, the media and PRS Guitars enthusiasts. The first year’s event drew an impressive 700 participants, as well as a group of PRS celebrity endorsees. The event has mushroomed in the years since, with this weekend’s registrant list reaching 2,500 participants.
To kick things off at the 2010 Experience PRS event, Paul held a party at his home in Annapolis, Maryland, where it sits on the shore of a tributary off the Chesapeake Bay, where a group of VIPs and the press were invited to socialize and hear some great music by Howard Leese (Heart) and Cody Kilby who backed up an incredible vocalist, Mia Davis. Cody rolled out his own intricate solos, one so new that he’s yet to give it a name. English guitarist, Martin Simpson, offered up some fine acoustic instrumentals with some masterful slide and finger work. In the past the first night events have featured such music luminaries like Ricky Skaggs, Cody Kilby, Tony McManus, Buddy Guy and Carlos Santana.
PRS dealers and distributors of PRS gear showed up from all over the world, including Europe, Australia, Japan and from throughout the United States. Paul Smith is always in his element when he’s surrounded by musicians and guitar enthusiasts…it’s in his blood. And, truth be told, everyone at the party was infected by the same six-string bug.
Members of the media showed up, including journalists and photographers from Guitar World, Premiere Guitar, Mel Bay Publications and Jon Chappell from Harmony Central.
The Experience PRS open house event, is being held on 24-25 September at the company’s Stevensville, Maryland operations, and the event will include celebrity artist gigs, guitar and amp seminars, and we fully expect to see PRS unleash some new products lines this weekend.
Guitar International magazine will be on-hand and armed and ready to shoot some photos and video to whet our readers’ appetites for some on-site coverage of this year’s annual, and now a PRS tradition, Experience PRS trade show.
