Multi-platinum guitarist Kenny Olson has announced the upcoming release of his long-awaited, debut solo album “Kenny Olson Cartel” on February 7th through Foxy Music/Firebird. While Olson may be best known as Kid Rock’s 11-year axeman and founding member of his Twisted Brown Trucker Band, music fans around the globe are soon going to know him by the music of his ground-breaking, genre-bending rock band, Kenny Olson Cartel.
One of the most influential artists in the history of rock made a significant contribution today to help support public school music programs. According to a press release, the Van Halen founder and guitarist Eddie Van Halen donated 75 electric guitars from his own personal collection to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides schools across the country with quality musical instruments.

Dickey Betts, founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will take his Great Southern Band to Sarasota, FL this November 12th and 13th to headline the Dan Toler ALS Support Benefit Festival. Being held at Herschberger Ranch in Sarasota, the benefit will raise funds for Toler’s ongoing battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), widely known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Reviver Music’s David Ross/CEO of the label, Dennis D’Amico/Executive Producer and William Cutts/CCO are undertaking not only a live concert benefit for The Women and Cancer Fund, Monday, November 7th at the Ryman Auditorium but on the following day, Tuesday, November 8th, a CD released, distributed by BDG. BDG is distributed by RED Distribution LLC and will make sure the album is in as many brick and mortar outlets nationwide as possible. Entitled, “Let Us In Nashville – A Tribute To Linda McCartney” the album will also be available via a series of digital outlets.
Pete Townshend, who stopped blogging a while ago because he was tired of quotes being taken out of context, recently got back in the game with a post about a new box set of Quadrophenia. The box set is due out in October and will include the original album, remastered by Jon Astley, surround-sound mixes of some tracks by Bob Pridden, a bunch of never-before-seen photographs, and a slew of tracks that didn’t make it on the album.
