I always brought more than one guitar on a tour or to a concert, and one of them was usually a Telecaster. There would be a part of the show where I would strap on a Telecaster, joke about “it’s Tele time!”

“In early summer of 1968, I was asked to come to take photos of Bob Dylan at his home in Woodstock, for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. Although he was comfortable with me, he seemed nervous in front of the camera and his uneasiness made it difficult for me. I was never the kind of photographer to talk people into feeling good: I let them be the way they were, and I photographed. Usually it worked out because I flowed with whatever mood they were in, without resistance, until things lightened up.

Titled, Tonechaser – Understanding Edward: My 26-Year Journey with Edward Van Halen, the hardback book traces Rosen’s friendship with the late, great guitar player, beginning in 1977 – prior to Van Halen’s debut release – and running through 2003.
