It’s been five years since the release of Nils Lofgren’s last studio album featuring his own songs, but now he is back and has something to say! An effort that’s been in the works since the culmination of Springsteen’s Working on a Dream Tour in November of 2009, Lofgren’s new album Old School covers a variety of topics including desperation, self doubt, true love, departed friends and holding on to your dreams while the world goes mad. I had the pleasure to speak with Nils about his new release and the importance of being true to yourself as an artist.

Every child spends time in play pretending they are what they wish to be when they grow up. Who among us hasn’t hit the game winning home run, been crowned Miss America, taken off in a rocket or performed on stage in front of thousands of adoring fans. Reality and more likely than not our parents, dictated that we have a backup plan should our plans of fame and superstardom not come to fruition. That’s how it was for most of us. But then there’s guitarist Pete Evick.

9 Chambers is a collaboration between two respected hard rock veterans – producer/singer/guitarist Greg Hampton (who has worked with the likes of Alice Cooper, Bootsy Collins, Lita Ford, and recently unearthed Tommy Bolin recordings), and former Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell. They crossed paths when they ran into each other at a flea market buying Mahogany Rush, Free, or Jimi Hendrix bootlegs as well at NAMM.

Legend, music pioneer, and amazing blue-eyed soul stylist Gregg Allman can proudly lay claim to being one of the all time great, influential, landmark artists in rock history. Some thirty years ago, at a lull in America’s artistic pride when The British Invasion swept her by, Gregg, along with his brother, legendary slide guitar virtuoso Duane Allman, came out of the pastoral southern foothills and co-founded the now mythic, Allman Brothers Band. Their brilliant, astonishing hodge podge gumbo of boogie woogie blues rock, took the world by storm and gave the country back a sense of musical pride, while taking their permanent place in the firmament of music theology.

Authentic, classic rock sounds are needed now more than ever, and those sounds are in no short supply on The Stone Chiefs’ debut album Drive On.
In an era when more and more musicians rely on electronics and software to get their art across, it’s refreshing to discover an up-and-coming act that hasn’t forgotten the foundation that rock music was built upon – the electrifying, rip-roaring sound of a real, live band playing together. That’s the exact approach The Stone Chiefs, adopt on their recently-released debut album.

It’s still hard to believe that almost 30 years have past since Queensryche’s first EP with “Queen of the Reich” and “The Lady Wore Black”. I can remember like it was yesterday purchasing their EP and being blown away by it originality and amazing guitar work. Fast forward a few decades and Queensryche is still making great music with their 13th release Dedicated to Chaos.
