A two-day foot racing event hosted by Old Dominion Racing will be held at Dominion Racing and Entertainment’s NASCAR track in Thornburg, Virginia, on March 4-5, 2023 with two of D.C.’s finest bands, Rick Landers & Heartland and The Rockits.
While a field of runners mixes it up with short runs, marathons and a whopping 200 miler, families and friends will be able to hang out at the venue’s stage to watch, hear and hang out with the groups.
The Rockits have been named one of “Washington’s Best” music groups by The Washington Post and are known to reinvent themselves to meet the needs of all kinds of situations, from bars and clubs, cruises, weddings, special events and festivals.
Led by New Zealander multi-instrumentalist, Peter Grattan, who can move from guitar to bass to keyboards to drums and harp, his outstanding cover band has over a thousand classic songs to draw from to match a host’s music occasion interests. You want ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s rock and more, The Rockits can spin them out and fill up dance floors of both young and old fans.
Rick Landers & Heartland were pulled together a little over a year ago to entertain DC-MD-VA crowds with Rick’s originals. An eclectic mix of Americana, folk, jazz and pop, his songs run from soft love ballads (London After Michigan), pop tunes (She’s Better Than Me), historic songs (Leviathan, Wintered Sky, 1913 Stag Canon No. 2) and songs that pay tribute to such notables as songwriters, Nick Drake and Judee Sill, and South African president, Nelson Mandela.
Recently, multi-award winning songwriter, Landers’ has performed in some interesting spots, including: the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa, Virginia Festivals, and in 2022 he paid tribute to a large group of coal miners who tragically passed away in 1913 and 1923, at a New Mexico cemetery, where they now rest.
Rick is a publisher, editor and author (Guitar International Magazine), and is currently working on his debut album with producer, Les Thompson, co-founder of the multi-platinum The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Mr. Bojangles/May the Circle Be Unbroken).
