This Melodic Patterns or Sequences Exercise is based on a jazz standard written in 1939 by Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern called “All The Things You Are.”
I’ve singled out the chord changes, without melody, and stocked them with various melodic arpeggio patterns using all the CAGED chord shapes.
The tune contains a good number of chords and key changes so it will keep you busy.
Note that the arpeggios do not play from root to root but rather move to the closest chord tone of the next chord.
This eliminates the tendency of the expected sound and makes for a much more flowing and challenging exercise.
The chord frames are played by an optional second guitar and feature the shapes you learned in chapter eight.
It’s played slowly since there are thirty-six measures of steady eighth notes.
In order to maintain its original jazz flavor the arrangement should also be played with a swing feel.

Hi Hemme,
I really like this exercise and would like to make it part of my daily regimen, but am finding it a little difficult to read in its present form. It is a little small and does not print.
Best Regards,
