According to bassist Nikolai Fraiture, The Strokes already have a good amount of material written for their their follow-up to this year’s comeback album, Angles. In an interview with The Daily Star, Fraiture said that while the sessions have been sporadic due to touring, they feel like marriage therapy.

“We are working on parts whenever we have time off. We try and get together when we are not on tour and have spare time,” the bassist told reporter Kim Dawson. “There aren’t so many finished songs but we have many parts. We try putting them together like puzzles and making them stick.”

Nikolai also expounded on the contributions of the whole band. “What we do on our own is not the same as what we do together. We all work together and spend a lot of hours on the songs together,” the bassist said. However, he did add that “some people are bringing in stuff, some are not.” Fraiture didn’t elaborate on who is or isn’t contributing.

The bassist also commented on the state of the band’s relationship, which has been rocky at times, including during the recording sessions for Angles, so much so that singer Julian Casablancas (jokingly) told NME that Angles should have been called Frenemies, in reference to his relationship with his bandmates. Fraiture said that things are looking up: “We all work together and spend a lot of hours on the songs together. We’re in a good place as a band right now. I feel like I’m at therapy in a marriage.”
