Cheap Trick were the victims of a sudden stage collapse this past Sunday at the Ottawa Bluesfest in Toronto. A savage storm was the cause, according to organizers, who said that “the fact that (the storm) brought that stage down and nothing else came down in the park is just a freak situation.”

As the storm brought the stage down, witnesses are saying that Cheap Trick were knocked clean off their feet. The band members escaped unscathed, but eight others weren’t as lucky. Four, including a driver for Cheap Trick were seriously injured. Sandy, the driver, spent the night in the hospital.

In an update on Facebook, Cheap Trick assured fans that they were unhurt: “Everyone is okay and we are so lucky to be alive and hope that all the fans are okay too.” Frontman Robin Zander shouted out to their driver, posting “And all the best to our truck driver Sandy.”

Joe Satriani, who was to perform later in the evening, was watching Cheap Trick when it happened. Guitarist Mike Keneally, who is playing keyboards for Satriani live this summer, was as well. Keneally tweeted about the accident, saying “So we’re standing on the side of the stage at the Ottawa Blues Fest watching Cheap Trick killing it, then this happens …Sorry not to be able to do our show tonight and very sorry about those who were injured. Serious weirdness. We’re all OK, back at the hotel.”
