Authorities in Aberdeen, Washington are considering naming multiple public landmarks after Kurt Cobain, who grew up in the northwest port town. According to Blabbermouth.net, they are currently discussing naming both a bridge and a public park after the Nirvana frontman.

The Washington Post is reporting that the town will open up the floor to residents during their next City Council meeting to comment on the possibility of commemorating the iconic singer and songwriter. That meeting will be held on July 27th.

The current plan is to rename the Young Street Bridge, which stretches over the Wishkah River, “Kurt Cobain Bridge,” and to name a small, currently-unnamed park near the bridge “Cobain Landing.” Second Ward Councilwoman Alice Phelps said that some residents will probably complain about the plans to rename these public places, likely objecting the memorial of someone whose heavy drug use is so widely known.

Kurt Cobain changed my life with his music- I only wished he could have stuck around to make more. I paid homage to him on the anniversary of his death with my portrait of the grunge legend on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/04/in-memoriam-kurt-cobain-and-lane-staley.html
