San Francisco thrash metal icons Testament are currently in the throes of recording their new record, according to updates from the band.

With only the drum tracks to go on, guitarist Eric Peterson is already excited. “Drum tracks completed on 4 songs. It’s gonna be the fastest and most outta control drum record we’ve done. Visual clips coming soon!”

Bravewords.com is reporting that the album, which will be following up their 2008 album The Formation Of Damnation, is being produced by Andy Sneap, who has in the past produced Machine Head, Megadeth and Arch Enemy. It will not feature drummer Paul Bostaph, as he has sustained an undisclosed injury that is preventing him from playing. Gene Hogland, formerly of Death, Fear Factory, and Strapping Young Lad, is filling in for this record, although Paul plans on joining the band in concert later this summer (dates below).

Testament have a reputation for cycling members, having numerous lineup changes since their inception in 1983. Guitarist Eric Peterson is the only member to have always been in the band through all the incarnations.

Summer dates for Testament follow, and hopefully we’ll see Bostaph back in action somewhere along the way.
