ACDC Music Used to Calm Great White Sharks

It turns out AC/DC isn’t the Devil’s music, it’s the sharks’ music! Australian scientists recently found that normally ferocious great white sharks are much less aggressive when they can hear AC/DC songs.

While most music has some effect, the research of Matt Waller, a charter boat captain, has determined that great whites behave much calmer when they hear specifically AC/DC tunes, “You Shook Me All Night Long” in particular.

Matt went into further detail when speaking to ABC News about the phenomenon. “I was talking to a guy who had been diving in Guadeloupe and there were some divers there who [had] been playing music in the water. We got talking and they said… there were some certain songs that worked and certain songs that didn’t in terms of an actual change in the behavior of the sharks.”

After trying a bunch of different records, Waller found that AC/DC “really hit the mark.”

Surprisingly enough, the aggressiveness of AC/DC caused the sharks to be “more investigative, more inquisitive and a lot less aggressive.” Waller continued, “they actually came past in a couple of occasions when we had the speaker in the water and rubbed their face along the speaker which was really bizarre.”
