Opeth Announces Title for Upcoming Album

Opeth have been diligently working on their new album, a follow-up to Watershed, the band’s critically acclaimed 2008 album.

They just unveiled the title of the record via Facebook: “We can exclusively reveal that the new Opeth album will be titled Heritage. The record is due for release through Roadrunner Records in September. More details to follow soon.”

This is the latest Opeth news, following the April announcement that Per Wiberg, who had played keyboards with Opeth since 2003, is no longer in the band. His replacement has been rehearsing with the band since that announcement, but the identity of the mystery musician has not yet been released.

Mikael Åkerfeldt, guitarist/singer of Opeth, said of the matter: “Well, it’s been somewhat of a revolving door of members during the last couple of years, and now, Per is no longer a member. Mendez, Axe and Fredrik and I came to the decision that we should find a replacement for Per right after the recordings of the new album, and this came as no surprise to Per. He had, in turn, been thinking about leaving, so you could say it was a mutual decision. There’s no bad blood, just a relationship that came to an end, and that’s that. We wish Per the best, and he did a splendid job recording keyboards for the last record, which stands as his final recording with Opeth.”
