Heart Crazy on You
Out of the box, sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson pushed the envelope with their debut single “Crazy on You,” off their 1976 first album, Dreamboat Annie. By coupling Nancy’s fine acoustic intro to a surge of hard rock, “Crazy on You” was a fire breather. Nancy has said that her fast track acoustic rhythm on the record was inspired by the Moody Blues 1970 song “Question,” from that group’s Question of Balance album.
The album, Dreamboat Annie, was recorded in Canada on the Mushroom Records label and released in 1975. The album coursed its way around Canada with success before it gained traction in the Seattle area. The Wilson’s rolled two singles off the album “Crazy for You,” that reached #35 on the charts and “Magic Man” at #9 on the charts in the same year. Dreamboat Annie would eventually sell over 1 million copies and earn the group its first platinum album. They now have six platinum and two gold albums and have sold over 30 million records.
Although Nancy serves as Heart’s amazing lead vocalist, her guitar thumping sister, Ann, sings backup and has had lead vocal on such tracks as “These Dreams,” “Stranded” and “There’s The Girl.” Nancy’s guitar work can be lithe, articulate and charming or a full-blown rampage. “Crazy on You” was an outstanding debut for Nancy to show off her skills, and one that had top rock guitarists around the world taking notice.
