Dave Grohl will always be a fixture in discussions about grunge band, Nirvana, but he’s moved beyond his drumming days with that group, as the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Foo Fighters. After Cobain’s suicide, Grohl would be sought after by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and there were rumors that he might join Pearl Jam, But, in the end, Dave grabbed Pat Smear (guitar), William Goldsmith (drums) and Nate Mendel (bass) to form Foo Fighters, although, Dave had already recorded the album that would serve as the group’s self-titled debut CD.
Foo Fighters released their second single “I’ll Stick Around,” from their 1995 debut album (Foo Fighters), a track that Grohl told Mojo magazine was about Kurt Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, and one that reflected a disdain for her. The group was pulled in for the video for “I’ll Stick Around,” as was Jerry Casale as director. Jerry had been a founding member of the new wave group, Devo, but he also gathered up video credentials directing songs for Devo, The Cars, Klymaxx, Rush, Soundgarden, Silverchair and other groups.
“I’ll Stick Around” nailed the #1 position on Billboard’s U.S. Hot Modern Rock Tracks and #18 on the U.K singles charts.
