Godin ICON Series Guitars: NAMM Show 2011

By: Staff

Most people will know the Godin name from their highly sought after solidbody acoustic models, but they’ve also got an impressive selection of solidbody electrics as well. One of the newest members of Godin’s family of guitars, the ICON series, was on display at thie year’s NAMM show. These are some very cool guitars, and they definitely stand up to the same high standards that Godin holds for their acoustic instruments.

Godin’s Press and Artist Relations man Richard Bunze was on hand to give us the lowdown on the new Godin ICON series guitar.

Here’s another new model called the ICON Series. It’s our first set neck, so that’s something special for us. It’s definitely a rock guitar. It’s a solid mahogany body with a 24 ¾ neck scale and a different variety of pickups. Here’s a Fat Black model [Shown Below], so definitely for the aggressive guys’ styling, a Seymour Duncan in the bridge and a Godin custom Humbucker at the neck.

All of them feature the Godin HDR, so the High Definition Revoicer that you punch in, but it’s not a boost. What it does, is it re-voices all the frequencies of each pickup, so you almost get two sets of pickups in one guitar. It’s really beneficial to a clean tone, because you’ll really hear the bite and dynamics of the guitar. The Fat Black is a maple carved top, this is the Type 2 classic with a mahogany carved top and this one is really cool. It’s the ICON Type 2 and it’s got an amazing set of pickups. You’ve got an option to do pretty much everything with it.

We also have the ICON Type 2 Convertible where you have the option of a Humbucker, single coil or P-90. With the 3-way switch, you can choose your [front or back] pickup. With these two mini-switches you can choose between the Humbucker, single coil and P-90, and when using both main switches you can get over 30 different tones from this guitar. Plus you have the High Definition Revoicer here, which will, again, change the frequencies of the pickups and give you even more versatility.

And all the ICON models are made in Canada, and we’re really proud to say that.
