The tune “Lucky,” written by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat, was released as a single off Jason’s studio album named We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. On the track’s video, the pop crooner, Jason Mraz, does his part of the duet in Prague, Czechoslovakia with singer-songwriter, Colbie Caillat, walking a beach on the island of Kauai in harmony with Mraz. Well received from the start the duet release hit the Billboard charts at #96 and after spinning around and up the charts reached #48 of Billboard’s Hot 100, and #9 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks.
“Lucky” grabbed a Grammy award in 2010 for the Best Pop Collaboration for Vocals. And talk about stiff competition, other duets nominated for the award included: Roseanna Cash and Bruce Springsteen, Norah Jones and Willie Nelson, Ciara and Justin Timberlake, and Taylor Swift coupled with platinum singer-songwriter, Caillat, nominated again for the duet track, “Breathe.” “Lucky” would be re-recorded by Mraz with Lil Wayne and be covered on the hit television show, Glee.
Jason got the idea of a duet with Colbie when he heard she was a fan of his, so he called her up and asked if she’d be interested in collaborating on a song. Mraz began to send her bits and pieces of what he’d come up with and she worked on her part with her music director and guitarist, Timothy Fagan. Colbie and Mraz would later meet in London to record the track. Mark Terefe, who’s worked with Coldplay and James Morrison, produced the album, which hit the #2 spot on Billboard and has sold 2 million copies worldwide.
