This monster of an effects pedal features 21 different filter sweeps, and each is completely customizable. The Frequency knob sets the center frequency of whichever sweep is selected, which can range from super-low and bassy to bright and brittle. The Sweep Range knob controls both the direction of the sweep (up or down) and how wide of a frequency range it covers. The Speed knob controls both the speed of the sweep’s attack and decay. On the left side of 12 o’clock, the Speed knob controls the attack and decay together, but on the right of 12 o’clock, the attack stays on the fastest setting and the knob only controls the decay.

When I was asked to review the Taylor GS8e, aka Grand Symphony, I jumped at the opportunity. I knew the first song that I was going to play on this beauty would need to be fitting for the moment; the song that came rushing to my head was “Norwegian Wood” by the Beatles, a great acoustic song for a memorable occasion.

Like many fellow guitar players and gear enthusiasts, the search for that perfect overdrive pedal is one that rarely finds an end. I can’t tell you how many late nights I’ve spent scouring video reviews on YouTube and proguitarshop.com looking for that perfect box of sonic goodness. This is why I can’t tell you that my search is finally over. What I can say, is that I’ve found a pedal that has halted my search. That pedal is the Rockett Pedals Animal Overdrive.

Before I played one note on the Cort Gene Simmons Punisher 2 Bass I needed to properly prepare for the occasion. I first needed to re-acquaint myself with Kiss’ Destroyer and secondly, and most importantly, I needed to be wearing a Kiss make-up era shirt. You may be asking yourself why a make-up era shirt when the original Punisher was first introduced by Gene in 1992-93 during Kiss’ Revenge album? The answer is simple, I wanted too!

Some things were invented for obvious reasons. With others, the motivation is less clear. Consider, for example, the electric guitar. When guitarists first crudely electrified their instruments in the 1920s, what were they trying to do? Why change something that had been successful for hundreds of years? Could they have envisioned that the instrument that inspired some of Vivaldi’s and Boccherini’s most beautiful compositions would one day be used by Motorhead and Blink-182?

Guitarists hate to change their strings, it’s just a fact. There’s a well-spoken myth that floats around the guitar world that players want to make it big so they can have fame and fortune. The truth is, we all want to make it big so we can afford to pay someone to change our strings for us on a regular basis. Imagine how cool it would be to be able to play on fresh strings all the time, without having to sit there are change them every 3 to 4 days when they begin to wear out.
