Trevor Rabin - Jacaranda

Trevor Rabin’s publicist, Costa Communications, graciously informed me in an Official Press Release today, April 30, 2012, that the legendary guitarist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger, and esteemed award winning film composer, is releasing his greatly anticipated, new instrumental solo album, Jacaranda, May 8th, 2012 on Varese Sarabande Records/Varese Vintage Records.

Jacaranda will be available, May 8th 2012, digitally and physically at all purchase locations, as well as being showcased in special displays at all Guitar Center® stores.

Jacaranda is Trevor’s first new solo studio album in 23 years, since 1989’s critically acclaimed “Can’t Look Away”. The platinum selling Rabin plays and performs on over a dozen different guitars and stringed instruments on the album, as well as showcasing his dazzling gifts as a pianist. The album reflects Trevor’s many diverse music styles including roots, jazz, rock, bluegrass, classical, and blues.

Trevor composed all of the songs on Jacaranda. In addition to playing all of the instruments on the album except drums, Trevor also engineered, mixed, produced, and arranged all of the tracks on Jacaranda.

The album also features two songs showcasing the stellar percussive talents of Trevor’s son Ryan Rabin on drums, who is drummer, songwriter, and producer for the acclaimed indie band Grouplove. Ryan performs his tour de force of virtuosity alongside Trevor on the tracks, “The Branch Office” and “Me And My Boy”.

Trevor is an icon of rock and pop music as well as in the realm of film scoring.  As the former guitarist, singer, and songwriter for the progressive rock band Yes, Trevor wrote their only number one song, “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”.  He also composed Yes’s sole Grammy Award® winning song, the instrumental, “Cinema”.  As a film composer, he has scored thirty four motion pictures, composing compelling and unforgettable scores for films including Armageddon, Remember The Titans, and both National Treasure films.

Trevor also has dedicated his life to social activism. In his native South Africa, Trevor toured as a performing member and songwriter for the Anti-Apartheid band Freedom’s Children, challenging the government before emigrating to the USA.  His music from Remember The Titans resounded as the inspirational theme that President Barack Obama adopted to underscore and elevate his presidential acceptance speech.

Jacaranda is an album that will take listeners on an amazing musical journey.  It is a true labor of love for Trevor and the album reflects the ongoing artistic scope, vision, innovation, and many eclectic music influences, that Trevor has continually embraced, and which continue to inform, his immense virtuosity and sublime artistry.

The jacaranda tree was originally indigenous to South America, but it now also flourishes throughout the world. It’s radiant blossoms can be found in South Africa, where Trevor was born and grew up, beginning and crafting his illustrious musical career. The jacaranda also blooms throughout Europe and the United States, where Trevor’s music and career has continued to grow and evolve.  Trevor’s career reflects that of the jacaranda tree, in that his career has grown and has flourished on several continents.
