Black Veil Brides Live: Stripped Down, Raw and In Your Face

“We are Black Veil Brides and we’ve come to kick your asses” shouted Andy Biersack from the stage at the Vans Warp Tour when the traveling carnival came to Oceanport NJ.

Picture one of the hottest summer days in NJ, sweltering heat, sun beating down and sweaty teenage girls jammed in front of a stage like an alter awaiting the next generation of glam metal gods. Move over Motley Crue and Poison, the new breed of rock stars have arrived and they are going to kick your asses too!

You want dueling guitars, guttural screams, fist pumping, bass thumping, make-up wearing guys in leather on a hotter than hell day on planet earth, you got it.

BVB exploded onto the stage in full face and body make-up tearing into “Love isn’t Always Fair” and didn’t look back in their short 30 minute sent. Though they only have two CDs out so far, the band has droves of fans shouting the chorus to all their songs.

From there they went on to “All Your Hate,” “God Bless You” and “Knives and Pens.” Their songs are vengeful, angry, yet commercial. Andy’s vocal’s change up from singing to full-blown screaming in the blink of an eye on songs such as “Legacy.”

Jinx and Jake are the dueling maestros who play off each other nicely, never missing a note as they throw themselves across the stage. Ashley Purdy, bassist, and second in command whips the band into a frenzy and points to teenage girls to lift their tops.

Highlight of the set for me and the crowd was when they finished with their new anthem “Fallen Angels” from their second CD Set the World on Fire.

See these guys sooner than later in these smaller venues when they are stripped down and raw. This is what it must have been like seeing Motley Crue playing the US Festival in 1983 before the big stage productions and gimmicks.

Next BVB are off to Australia for a headlining tour then back to the states with their own US headlining gig in the Fall.
