As part of their continued support of musicians everywhere MusiCares was holding an auction in the lobby of Summer NAMM to raise fund for those people who were affected by the Nashville flood of 2010. With a wide range of very cool auction items, generously donated by many of the companies at the conference, we all hope that the auction was a success.

MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Press Announcement

Nashville and its surrounding communities were unexpectedly struck by a major disaster on May 1. Many in this music community experienced significant losses with homes, cars, equipment, and rehearsal spaces ruined by the unprecedented flooding across the area. It has been estimated that only a fraction of those who experienced significant loss had adequate flood insurance to cover their damages.

Since our inception 20 years ago, it has been MusiCares’ mission to assist music industry people facing unexpected crises and we are poised and ready to help the Nashville music community get through this difficult time with the establishment of the MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Fund, designed to provide funds for food and clothing, gasoline and transportation, cleanup efforts, relocation costs, medicine, and other critical supplies.

In addition, several music industry partners have joined our relief efforts:

  • Guitar Center is partnering with MusiCares to assist the Nashville-area music community by providing emergency financial assistance to help those affected get through this crisis. Donations can be made at any of Guitar Center’s 214 store locations nationwide, or online at www.guitarcenter.com.
  • Through its Music Rising initiative, Gibson Foundation has committed to making a $250,000 contribution to MusiCares’ efforts to support instrument repair or replacements for affected music people.
  • Three-time GRAMMY-winning band Jars Of Clay has put together an EP featuring five different versions of their song “Flood.” The EP is available for $1 atwww.jarsofclay.com and 100 percent of proceeds will go directly to the MusiCares Fund. Jars Of Clay’s goal is to raise $100,000.
  • The Academy of Country Music’s charitable foundation, ACM Lifting Lives, has created a fund called Temporary Home, developed in partnership with their Entertainer of the Year, GRAMMY-winning artist Carrie Underwood. It will provide funds to music people who have been displaced by the floods and will be administered through MusiCares. Grants will be issued for temporary housing needs including relocation, moving expenses and replacement of personal items lost during the floods.
  • Nashville Flood Tees have been created by a group of artists and designers utilizing their talents to help the victims of the recent flooding. A portion of the proceeds from T-shirt sales will benefit the MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Fund.

We have also benefited from the generosity of numerous friends and organizations and send them all our heartfelt thanks. These acts of charity will help those in need of help in Nashville.

To apply for assistance, please contact MusiCares’ South Regional office at 615.327.0050 or toll-free at 877.626.2748. Click here to contribute to the MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Fund or text Music to 20222 to make a $5 contribution.
