A fun-filled night for all took place last weekend at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia, where multi-instrumentalists Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer lit up the crowd with an intro ukulele lesson, followed by captivating performances on their ukelele’s, Cathy’s guitar, spoons, a baritone banjo and a washboard filled with an assortment of sound makers.

After being together as a band for ten years, modern rockers Nevereven have grown as both individual musicians and as a unit as a whole. There are experiences, both personal and musical, that can only be learned by spending years in the jam room, on stage and in the recording studio together, and Nevereven have not only been outlasting many other modern rock bands, they have been growing as a unit the whole time. With a decade of gigs, jams and recording sessions behind them, the group brings their mature sound to their latest record, 2011’s The Progress of Disaster, a five-song EP filled with hard-rockin’, no holds barred tracks.

It’s London, May 28, 2007 and I’m with a rock icon, drummer Simon Kirke, the backseat driver of two legendary hard rock bands, Free and Bad Company. People know Simon as “the drummer”, but hand the softly spoken Englishman a guitar and he’ll pull out the stops. He is also an accomplished singer and songwriter equally adept at piano and on guitar. Before he helped found the group Free, he could be heard pounding his U.K made Hayman drum kit with an actor’s son and child prodigy blues guitarist, Paul Kossoff in a group named Black Cat Bones.
