When it was announced that Duran Duran would be one of four headlining music artists chosen to perform at a special gala concert to be held July 27, 2012 at London’s Hyde Park to celebrate the opening day ceremonies of the 2012 London Summer Olympics, I very much looked forward to this momentous show.

For the better part of the last four decades, KISS has set the standard by which all live rock performances are judged and on the heels of these iconic rockers for the last thirty years have been the similarly bombastic live antics of Mötley Crüe.

Earlier this year we had a chance to catch the Led Zeppelin tribute band, Lez Zeppelin, crank out some heavy Zep riffs at the State Theater in Virginia. And they rocked the house, garnering standing ovations, pumping fists and Zep fans singing along throughout the show.

The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia has long been considered one of the nation’s legendary music halls. On this spring evening, one legend would play host to another as The Birchmere welcomed Tommy Emmanuel for the second of two sold out shows.

All the Chicago hipsters were in attendance at the Congress Theater this past Friday night to see The Cult who are out in support of their long awaited new CD, Choice of Weapon. It’s been five years since we heard new music from the band and this CD is truly worth the wait.

“This band is on fire tonight!” yelled Sammy Hagar to the packed crowd and he wasn’t kidding! The band tore into a blistering 90+ minute set with nothing but killer songs and wise cracking jokes at the legendary Beacon Theater in New York City on May 21st.
