Hailing out of Tampa, Florida, Dean Guitars has set the pace for metal guitars and have been used by high-end musicians, including: Dimebag Darrell, Dave Mustaine, Bret Michaels, Michael Schenker, Leslie West and Michael Angelo Batio. Along with Dean Guitars, the parent company, Armadillo Enterprises. also produces those fine Luna guitars and Ddrums. One of the coolest things about Dean Guitars is the fact that the head honcho there, Elliott Rubinson, is an excellent bass player and has been known to get the groove going for the Michael Schenker Group, as well as many more kick-ass groups.

We all know by now that Van Halen is heading out on tour this year and as guitarists, we’re pumped about seeing Eddie Van Halen back on the street riffing, bending and tapping in his legendary ways! So, when we were at NAMM yesterday we had to stop and check out the EVH Wolfgang axes designed by the master flash guitarist and patent holder.

Heavy-hitters PRS Guitars arrived at NAMM with a full force gale of axes to drool over, as well as their remarkable line-up of stunning amps. Over the years we’ve come to admire this guitar company that keeps punching out new product lines to meet the needs of musicians at all levels. Whether you’re looking for an acoustic or electric guitar or a boutique styled amp, PRS always seems to pull out the stops and bring us something – or many things – quite magical.

NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers) Shows are the place where companies showcase their new products, and both the hits and misses make appearances. This year’s Summer NAMM Convention had its fair share of winners, like some new acoustic electric guitars from C.F. Martin & Co and Roland’s amazing new Guitar Synthesizer, but those were definitely balanced out by some misguided attempts.

I arrived at the Agile Partner’s booth slightly early for my interview with Collective Soul guitarist Joel Kosche, so I decided to take a look around at what they were showcasing at this year’s NAMM show. I poked my head around the corner of the booth and noticed a display of effects pedals, complete with headphones, sitting next to a man, who would turn out to be Darius Mostowfi and engineer with Daring Audio who also worked on Agile’s AmpKit.

If there’s one model that is instantly associated with the Godin brand name, it’s their line of solidbody acoustic guitars. For years players had to either put up with feedback on stage, or else shell out big bucks for a custom instrument that solved that problem, that is until Godin solved both for them. Not only do these models sounds great, but they’re affordable, two things that guitarists love in their instruments.

Most people will know the Godin name from their highly sought after solidbody acoustic models, but they’ve also got an impressive selection of solidbody electrics as well. One of the newest members of Godin’s family of guitars, the ICON series, was on display at thie year’s NAMM show. These are some very cool guitars, and definitely stand up to the same high standards that Godin holds for their acoustic instruments.
