The Kirk Pasich Project, featuring actor, comedian, and cabaret artist, Scout Durwood, drops a fun, funky, and original collection of classic Christmas tunes, out today from KZZ Music/Blue Élan Records.
Curated by KZZ Music/Blue Élan Records head, Kirk Pasich, the 12-song set of Christmas classics is led by a fun-fueled take on Stevie Wonder’s “What Christmas Means To Me,” an inspired version bursting with Durwood’s trademark personality and powerhouse vocals.
Never easy to take on a Stevie Wonder song, Durwood’s more than up to the task, blowing over a driving, more rock-forward beat than the original, while organs and guitars swirl around background vocals that would make Mr. Wonder proud.
After the lead track, other standouts show off Durwood’s impressive range and versatility, including an original take on “Marshmallow World” with a trap-infused back beat, a more somber, indie rock cover of The Killers’ “Christmas In L.A.,” and a gorgeous, stirring version of the Irving Berlin ballad, “Count Your Blessings (Instead of Sheep).”
There’s also the rhythmically inspired take on the hymn “Rise Up Shepherd,” featuring hand percussion, claps, stomps, and writhing background vocals – a showcase of the remarkable musicianship and incredible band playing throughout the album.
Taken together, these are 12 of the best Christmas songs around sung by a performer with limitless talent and endless personality. Whether you’re feeling mellow, groovy, wistful, or full of Christmas cheer, Scout Durwood has a song for you.
Kirk Pasich Project Presents A Scout Durwood Christmas is out everywhere November 10th via KZZ Music/Blue Élan Records. Let it get you in the spirit!
