Blues guitarist, Andy Watts, known in his native Israel as Israel’s “Ambassador of the Blues”, has released his latest album, the aptly titled Supergroove, on Booga Records. Distributed by Vizztone Label Group, SuperGoove is a highly charged album of ten electrifying rockin’ blues tracks; five originals written by Andy and five covers of other artist’s blues songs – featuring Andy’s raw, gritty guitar and his soulful vocals.
The album is co-produced by Andy and blues guitar great Kenny Neal, who is a long established and prominent figure in the contemporary blues scene.
Kenny, a Grammy nominee, and Andy struck up a friendship while Neal was performing with Andy and his band in Israel. Kenny was so taken with Andy’s talents as a guitarist, singer and composer, he decided to not only collaborate with Andy as a producer on Supergroove, he also decided to make the album one of his initial releases on his newly formed label, Booga Records.
Andy’s connections with additional well-known blues artists who performed with him in Israel – artists of the high caliber of Blues Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy-nominated guitarist Joe Louis Walker and venerable harpist Rick Estrin, enabled his to secure them as guest collaborators on Supergroove.
Walker does a guest vocal on Andy’s version of Walker’s, Blues of the Month Club, and Estrin played guest harp on his self-penned track, Living Hand to Mouth and the Watts original song, Don’t Take My Blues Away.
Additional guests appearing on the album include powerhouse blues-rock vocalist Eliza Neal and Israeli vocalists Danny Shoshan and Gadi Altman.
Andy’s nine-piece blues/R&B band, Blues on Fire – featuring not only keys, bass and drums but an amazing horn section of trumpet, sax and trombone (check out the title track from the album, which is bathed in a glorious horn arrangement) – has performed to sold-out audiences throughout the UK, Europe and, of course, Israel.
His music is a mix of rock, funk, R&B and always the blues with Watts feeling Supergroove illustrates his best musical effort to date.
“I’m really proud of this album,” says Watts. “It brings together all of my influences into what I think is an original blend of music and sounds that shows where my musical direction has taken me up to this point.”
He’s unquestionably the top blues artist in his home country of Israel and he is looking to continue to expand his presence worldwide. Supergroove should help him in accomplishing that goal.
