Ed Sheeran Earns Second RIAA – Diamond Certification for “Shape of You”

Earlier today, global superstar Ed Sheeran took to Instagram to share the news that he has made history once more with the Diamond certification of his GRAMMY winning smash “Shape Of You,” achieving sales and streams exceeding 10 million.

Reaching this milestone for the second time makes Sheeran only the 4^th artist to score multiple Diamond certified songs since the RIAA first implemented the Diamond certification 20 years ago. Sheeran’s GRAMMY winning song “Thinking Out Loud” was Diamond certified in 2017.

The lead single off of Sheeran’s 4x-Platinum certified, third studio album “÷,” “Shape Of You” has been breaking records since it’s arrival at the top of 2017. After debuting at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, the track went on to hold the top spot for 12 weeks and remain in the top 10 for 33 consecutive weeks, the most in the chart’s 60 year history.

Furthermore, the chart-topping debut of “Shape of You” alongside the #6 charting of follow-up, 3x-Platinum certified single “Castle On The Hill” upon their tandem release established Sheeran as the first artist to ever have two singles make simultaneous top 10 debuts on the Hot 100.

In other news, Sheeran made a surprise performance at a private event held last night in Anaheim, California to announce the launch of his new range of guitars, Sheeran by Lowden, in advance of the annual National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Conference.

This new acoustic guitar range marks the culmination of collaboration with premier guitar maker Lowden, based in Northern Ireland, and aims to make quality guitars in Ireland with great playability and tone more accessible for aspiring musicians. Sheeran himself has played Lowden guitars both on stage and in the studio.
