The Mavericks, who’ve made magic in the studio and delivered their genre-defying sound to live audiences since the early ’90s, will release Mono (The Valory Music Co.) on February 17, 2015, and two days later will embark on their “one-world” themed Mono Mundo Tour 2015.
The Grammy®-winning band first shared the exciting news from the Ryman Auditorium stage during their Grand Ole Opry® performance on November 13, where they gave a sneak peek at some of the fresh material. They will return to the Opry on February 13 to give Nashville fans an exclusive preview. Get a sneak peek here.
With a Cuban-American lead singer, garage-band ferocity, an intense live show and a deep love of both romance and pure country to go with the polyrhythmic beats they were raised on, The Mavericks were unlikely superstars. Yet their raucous sound broke ground for the country format with hits like “Here Comes the Rain,” “Crying Shame,” “Dance the Night Away” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down” and scored the group industry awards in prestigious categories such as Vocal Group and Album of the Year.
An indefinite divergence in 2004 led members Raul Malo, Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden in different directions until the 2013 release of In Time (The Valory Music Co.) and subsequent touring. In Time topped many critics’ Best Of lists, including American Songwriter, The Boston Globe, NPR, Los Angeles Times and New York Magazine. The Mavericks’ music has most recently been featured in the movie Grudge Match and ABC’s Nashville.
The new album and international dates follow The Mavericks’ triumphant 2013 return with the critically acclaimed In Time Twenty-Five Live Tour as well as major national TV appearances, including The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, CBS This Morning Saturday and their own PBS special.
A flurry of buzz elicited a hunger for more music, more signature swagger … more of the Mavericks. The Village Voice declared, “in a word or three, The Mavericks are cool as sh*t,” while No Depression praised the band’s “energy of a locomotive barreling down a track at a hundred miles an hour,” adding, “The chemistry between these guys is so good…” Fans from the U.S., Canada, London, Australia, Scotland and places in between turned out for an exhilarating run of live shows throughout the last year of headline dates.
“[We’ve] always defied the odds and expectations … a country band from Miami with a Cuban singer? But it works, because people feel the passion,” explains The Mavericks’ guitarist Eddie Perez.
