Biography

Marcos Rios is a versatile guitarist that is equally comfortable performing any style of music but considers himself more of a Jazz Guitarist than anything else.

Marcos began playing guitar approximately 10 years ago while still living in Puerto Rico. A few years into his guitar studies, Marcos moved to Chicago. This transition led Marcos attend The Merit School of Music in Chicago, where he studied with classical guitarist Tom Clippert as well as performed with jazz combos under the direction of jazz trumpeter Michael McLaughlin.

Marcos received a full academic and performance based scholarship from Western Illinois University where he had the privilege of studying with Matthew Warnock. Marcos holds a Bachelors of Music with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from Western Illinois University.

Marcos has also taken lessons with some of the top jazz musicians such as Lage Lund, Gilad Hekselman, Peter Mazza, Jim Kelly, Bruce Saunders and others.

After graduating from Western Illinois University Marcos decided to move back to Puerto Rico and will be attending the Conservatory of Puerto Rico to pursue a Graduate diploma in the execution of Caribbean Music, Jazz and Guitar.
