Karma Police
Radiohead spun some old discs for inspiration when they came up with tracks for their third studio album OK Computer, those would have included The Beatles’ White Album, given the sounds of “Karma Police” reminiscent to the Fab Four’s “Sexy Sadie”. “Karma Police” was the second single off the album and hit #8 on the U.K. charts. In the U.S., the song would chart to #14 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks. The album reached #1 on the U.K. album charts and has been certified triple platinum in the U.K. and double platinum in the U.S.
The alternative rock group got together in 1985 in Oxfordshire, England, and includes Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O’Brien (guitar), Jonny Greenwood (guitar, keyboards) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion). Front man, Yorke, has received accolades as a vocalist with MTV2 ranking him the 18th greatest singer of all time, and in 1988 Rolling Stone magazine placed him at #55 in its “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” Rolling Stone also gave Radiohead the #73 spot in its “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” rankings.
“Karma Police” walks in steady 4/4 time with guitars set in standard pentatonic tuning. Nothing complex here to play with the track starting out in A Dorian, then moving to Bm around the middle of the song and ending on a Bm chord.
