By: Staff

Guitar International will be rolling out its Annual Guitar International Awards  2021, by category this year, with a combined article once we announce all awardees.

Guitar Book of the Year: Lisa S. Johnson

The hands down winner of our Guitar Book of the Year  2021 goes to Lisa S. Johnson’s beautiful book, Immortal Axes – Guitars That Rock, a tome that took significant research, miles on the road to meet with guitarists, guitar techs and other guitar gurus, and a magnificent photographic “eye” to capture the spirit and the beauty of our favorite instrument.

No doubt, Johnson’s book was an undertaking driven by her love of cool imagery that stops us in mid-stride to hold fast to each page as it greets us with guitars owned by world-class and legendary musicians.

Guitars owned by such famed artists are draped in light that best reflect their essence and Lisa highlights and informs us of the contributions of their owners.

Each guitar has historical provenance and, oftentimes, her selection of instruments brings back memories of readers’ experiences watching them being played by such luminaries as, Les Paul, Slash, Tommy Emmanuel, Peter Frampton, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy and many, many more. The book design too, is a thing of beauty.

Guitar International is honored to present this remarkable book as its Guitar Book of the Year 2021!
