A fun-filled night for all took place last weekend at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia, where multi-instrumentalists Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer lit up the crowd with an intro ukulele lesson, followed by captivating performances on their ukelele’s, Cathy’s guitar, spoons, Marcy’s 4-string cello banjo and a washboard filled with an assortment of sound makers.
The crowd was a gathering of uke lovers and uke players, young and old. Loaner ukuleles were handed out to those who were willing to give it a go and Cathy and Marcy offered up a rudimentary lesson filled with basic chords and simple traditional tunes – and the crowd loved it.
After a short break, the two-time Grammy Award winners gifted the audience with a mix of tunes that covered Gypsy “Django” Jazz; Swing; Folk , Rock and Jazz, all the while humorously bantering with their old and new found fans.
Well known for the music for children, along with their spirited folk and traditional music, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, have moved into the Ukelele mode with the release of their latest CD, Rockin’ the Uke. Marcy told us that she and Cathy have been working with Truefire on a new series of Fink & Marxer video lessons.
If you’re looking for a family outing that will keep everyone’s toes tapping, prompt families to sing together with multi-generational harmony and be charmed by an evening of delightful music, a Fink & Marxer show is not to be missed.
