Metallica Rock The Hell Out Of Halifax

By: Jason Saulnier

I finally got to see Metallica play after the 18 years it has been since Metallica’s last show in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Rock The Hill, the all day festival, had rain for most of the day during the openers spots, but just before Metallica hit the stage the sky showed the colors of a great evening to come. The all-day event featured Prince Edward Island’s Death Valley Driver, Matt Mays, Protest The Hero, Seether and Coheed and Cambria. who all delivered great performances.

The evenings energy was certainly driven by Metallica’s band members Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo opening with “Creeping Death.” They played a variety of songs, from selections off their current release, Death Magnetic, to their debut album Kill ‘Em All. The audience sure got what they came for with this set list during the evening.

Rob Trujillo delivered a brilliantly-executed bass spotlight solo with the volume pounding the audience. Lars Ulrich’s drums sounded very large and heavy, James and Kirk’s guitars were brilliantly synced as well. Lars Ulrich said at the end of the concert Metallica will come to Nova Scotia more often, as the Halifax crowd is very deserving of seeing Metallica again without having to wait 18 years.
