Steppenwolf Born to Be Wild
If you’re ever wondered where the term Heavy Metal first originated, you don’t have to look any further than the classic rock anthem “Born to be Wild,” which was originally written by the band Mars Bonfire and later made legendary by Canadian rockers Steppenwolf. The lyrics to “Born to be Wild” contains the line “heavy metal thunder,” which is the first time this term was used in rock song, and therefore this track is often credited as the first Heavy Metal song, giving credit to the band for inventing the genre. Though this second point is debatable, you can’t argue that this is a great song by a great band.
