Coming out of Las Vegas, The Killers released their debut album, Hot Fuss, in the U.K. in September of 2003 and in the U.S. in December of that year. The first track on the album, “Mr. Brightside” moved slowly up the charts, having entered the Billboard Top 100 chart at #20 in February of 2005 and oozing slowly to #10 by June. With lyrics written by lead vocalist, Brandon Flowers, and music composed by guitarist, Dave Keuning, the song has now become one of the most played tunes of all time. In fact, having spent over 70 weeks in the UK Top 100, it has become one of the longest tracks to stick on the charts since 2000. With over 7.66 million plays, “Mr. Brightside” is the most listened to song since the launch of Last.fm. In 2010, Total Guitar magazine ranked it as having the #9 Greatest Guitar Riff of the 21st Century.
From their days in Las Vegas, playing small clubs and at drag shows, The Killers that include, along with Flowers and Keuning, Mark Stoermer on bass/rhythm guitar and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. on drums, The Killers have now been nominated for seven Grammy Awards. Most recently, Amazon.com in the U.K. highlighted The Killers as the #3 Top 10 best-selling artists of the decade.
