Back when he was drumming for Grunge Gods Nirvana, did Dave Grohl have any idea what the future would hold. That he would not only reinvent modern-rock drumming, but also take the helm as lead singer and guitarist for one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the past 20 years. Though the Foo Fighters have found massive success since Grohl stepped out from behind the kit and to the front of the stage, they have only managed one platinum-selling single, 2005’s “Best of You.”
Featuring Grohl’s signature fuzz-tone, hard driving rhythm guitar work and well-crafted lyrics, the song has become a fan favorite and is often the song most associated with the band. The song has also lead to a strange moment in rock history when, during the 2007 Super Bowl half-time show RnB artist Prince covered the song. This came as a huge surprise to the Foo Fighters as Prince has previously ripped on the band for them covering his song “Darling Nikki” in 2003.
