Guitar International is pleased to offer our readers a series of Public Service Announcements by well-known artists, who have graciously offered their time – sometimes in-between sets! – to promote their favorite causes or to offer up some sound advice on life and helping others.
Corky Laing, the explosive drummer from the legendary rock group, Mountain, with the great Leslie West and master bassist Rev Jones, was at a performance at the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Vienna, Virginia – an outdoor amphitheater that is a favorite spot for Washington D.C. audiences – when we spotted him and asked if he’d help us out and he said, “Sure…” to our request to help us roll out a PSA.
Mountain, the group that still rocks is famous for their hits, “Mississippi Queen” and “Nantucket Sleighride”, with Leslie West now stoking his own Leslie West Signature Dean axe and adding fuel to the lyrics of the tune, along with other Mountain songs, with his incredible bear-like vocals. And the relative newcomer to the band, Rev Jones, adds some fire to the Mountain top with his fluid basslines and head whipping rotations – you gotta see him to really understand this…and, of course, the percussion pyrotechnics of Corky Laing still rule.
