The largest music merchant trade convention in the U.S., known as “NAMM”, [National Association of Music Merchants] kicked off yesterday with a herd of music lovers anxious to get through the doors to ogle, handle and draw some charm out of the latest musical instruments.

Now in its 108th year, NAMM is a trade show that takes place in Anaheim, California (Winter) and Nashville, Tennesse (Summer) each year that’s  armed to the gills by musical instrument builders, who work with distributors and dealers to get their gear into the world’s supply channels and into the hands of players.

The largest and most prestigious guitar companies in the world are represented by their principals and sales people where they proudly present their latest models or innovations. And new companies entering the world of national and international business clearly target NAMM as “the place” to build their client list or at minimum gauge the state of health of the musical instrument industry.

NAMM is a place where you can bump into giants in the musical instrument industry, as well as celebrity artists and old friends. In the past, Guitar International has met Phil Everly (Everly Brothers), Billy Morrison (Camp Freddy), Jackson Browne, Nick Sterling, Johnny A., Nokie Edwards (The Ventures) and other luminaries of the music world.

It’s a place where serious, big dollar deals take shape in a sea of shiny new gear that include, guitars, amps, pianos, trumpets, drum kits, ukeleles, mandolins…you name it and most likely it’s at NAMM. GI journalists Jesse Stern and Desi Metcalf are on-board at NAMM this week to capture the event for our readers. We’ll be updating our NAMM coverage throughout the day, so stand by for more of NAMM DAY ONE!!

But, enough talk, let Guitar International take you into the Anaheim Convention Center, the home of NAMM for the next few days.
