Stephen Malkmus, frontman of the recently reunited Pavement and indie rock band Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, needs help replacing a naughty word for the radio edit of the Jicks’ new single, “Senator.” Since “blowjob” isn’t exactly radio fare, fans are being asked to be creative in coming up with a replacement.
Cheap Trick were the victims of a sudden stage collapse this past Sunday at the Ottawa Bluesfest in Toronto. A savage storm was the cause, according to organizers, who said that “the fact that (the storm) brought that stage down and nothing else came down in the park is just a freak situation.”
Coinciding with his two new albums, Deconstruction and Ghost, Devin Townsend and InsideOut are giving the public a 10-song compilation of Devin Townsend’s solo material. The compilation features songs from every one of Townsend’s records released by InsideOut.

The song will be featured on the band’s first effort since they released Blink 182 in 2003 and finds Tom Delonge, who had been spending his time with his band Angels and Airwaves, singing lead vocals.
Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd guitar legend David Gilmour, has been sentenced to 16 months in jail for violent disorder.
NME is reporting that the 21 year-old Gilmour was arrested and imprisoned after films surfaced of him throwing a trash can at a car transporting Prince Charles and defacing the Cenotaph (which commemorates the British war dead) in London.

Atlanta heavy metallers Mastodon are giving fans a sneak peak at their new album, The Hunter, which you can check out below. The album, which they’ve said will probably have an October release date, will be the follow-up to Crack The Skye, the band’s 2009 juggernaut of an album.

Albert Lee and Jon Anderson meet (backstage) for the first time in 30 years as both were headliners on this years Vancouver Island Music Festival. What a surprise to both to find out they were both headlining over the weekend. Both played various sets and workshops of the weekend in addition to their headlining spots and were received by ovations from the sold out crowd of 9,000.
It’s easy to stay in the box, to not explore and discover new ways of playing guitar or to come up with new ways to amp up your career aspirations. But, if we check out the way legendary guitarist Les Paul approached his guitar passion and life, I believe we can all take inspiration from “Rhubarb Red” and continually re-think or even out-think the challenges that we face in our music and our lives. If we emulate the life of Les Paul, we find ourselves on a path that reflects high-intensity curiosity, demands a “Can Do” attitude that’s followed-up with disciplined action – leading us to both small and grand success.
