medmetalThe new traveling exhibition, Medieval To Metal: The Art & Evolution Of The GUITAR, has opened at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, to stellar reviews. In addition to features in all local media and the state’s public radio, the exhibition has attracted banner crowds in its first three weeks.

“’Medieval To Metal’ has exceeded our expectations,” said Kathy Kelsey Foley, director of the Woodson. “And we’ve only just begun. We have a full calendar of unique performances, educational experiences, and events scheduled throughout the entire run of the exhibition.”

According to Andy McGivern, Woodson’s curator of exhibitions, “We had an incredibly strong opening weekend with the exhibition. Our programming has attracted overflow crowds, and we’re seeing a lot of people come to the museum who have never been to visit us before.”

Exploring the art and design of the world’s most popular instrument, “Medieval To Metal” features forty notable stringed instruments that traverse the guitar’s evolution.

In addition to instruments, “Medieval To Metal” features life-size photorealistic illustrations of historically important guitar designs from noted graphic artist Gerard Huerta, and 20 photographs of acclaimed musicians and their guitars from Neil Zlozower, one of the world’s premier concert photographers.

“We’re honored to be launching this exhibition at the Woodson Art Museum, and extremely pleased by the response,” said HP Newquist, executive director of The National GUITAR Museum. “The artistry of guitars has proven to be very popular with visitors. This is especially true in attracting people who might not consider a museum as their first choice for an outing.”

The exhibition runs through May 31 at the Woodson.
