Review: Triumph – Live at the Sweden Rock Festival DVD/CD

By: William Clark

For many years, longtime fans of Triumph have been willing to “Lay It On the Line” for a chance to have the full original lineup come back together after their 20 year hiatus, and bring their signature Magic Power back to the stage.

Their wish was finally granted when, on June 7th, 2008, Triumph made their powerful comeback at the Sweden Rock Festival in front of thousands of fans.

This major milestone in Triumph’s history has just now been finally released to CD and DVD, only four years later.

For the Triumph fan who didn’t have a plane ticket to Sweden just lying around, and for the fan who was lucky enough to catch this momentous occasion in person, this is Live at the Sweden Rock Festival package is a must have.

The original Triumph crew give a powerful performance, as they hammer through their best known rock ‘n’ roll anthems, such as “Never Surrender”, “Lay It On the Line”, and “Fight the Good Fight”.

The band also pulls out a few surprises, offering up crowd favorites, including a cover of Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way”, while adding their own style to the classic tune.

The members of Triumph are still firing on all cylinders and surprisingly still sound great together as a band, especially considering it was 20 years since they performed together on stage.

The DVD portion of this release has a few bonus features that really make this set stand out. A “behind the scenes” portion features a handful of discussions with the audience goers at the festival, as well as a band rehearsal and a photo gallery from the concert.

The DVD also boasts a press conference with the members of Triumph, as they answer revealing questions regarding their thoughts about their reunion, as well as news about a new studio album.

Overall, Triumph: Live at the Sweden Rock Festivalis a very worthwhile and solid release that any diehard fan should enjoy.
