Oktober DevilWing Bass – Give yourself an image to die for!

By: Rob Cavuoto

Are you looking for a bass that will give you a stage image that will turn heads while explode eardrums? Well look no further, the new Oktober DevilWing Bass should be on your evil little wish list.

The Oktober DevilWing bass is designed by legendary Misfit guitarist, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, and the latest addition to the Von Frankenstein Series of guitars and basses.

This bass is wickedly impressive looking either as an instrument or a weapon. The flat Gothic black paint job is perfectly suited for what ever the stage or back alley calls for. It’s extremely lightweight as you would expect yet not top heavy.

The “Suckerpunch’ soap bar pickup packs a tremendous punch. I was easily able to go from warm jazzy sound to some sharper punkier sounds making it quite versatile for rock and metal. It provided me with some nice highs as well as a rock solid bottom end.

The tone knobs allow a huge range of sounds, but for the most part I kept it set in the middle for a good balance of tone for both low and high notes.

It has a Mahogany body and neck with set in construction. The fretboard is Rosewood with 27 jumbo frets with bat inlays and a “bat” taper on the last few frets. I found the neck very easy to play and smooth. The factory set-up and action was perfect and played well right out of the box to deliver a stunning bass sound clean or with a little distortion.

The Production model sells for about $700 and the Custom Shop Model will run you around $3,500.  Included in the price is a form fitting “Zombie Skin” hard shell case which weighs a ton so better eat your Wheaties before carrying this bass to a gig.

That is one sweet looking bass! I would imagine it would be great for live performances…not so much in the studio…

I just can’t see something like that sounding as good as a bass with a fuller body. After all, the body does help to create the tone to some degree.
