In a recent interview with Dallas/Ft. Worth radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks, Megadeth mastermind Dave Mustaine revealed a few revelations. His talk with Cindy Scull can be listened to in full by following this link.

When asked why ex-Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman will not be returning to the band, Mustaine had a lot to say, according to Blabbermouth. “Well, first off, he’s not welcome. I mean, it’s not that he’s not welcome, it’s just that there’s no position for him. And Marty’s not as good as Chris [Broderick, current Megadeth guitarist] is, second off.”

Dave continued, citing a difference in goals. “Marty wanted to be a pop guitar player. He left to join a girl in a band in Japan… [The Megadeth lineup featuring Friedman and drummer Nick Menza] wasn’t the most important lineup anyways. The lineup that we have right now [Dave Mustaine on guitar/vocals, Broderick, bassist David Ellefson, and drummer Shawn Drover] has achieved more than those guys ever did.”

Then Mustaine came out about his hopes of forming a group with a couple of his former bandmates in Metallica. “’ve talked to Lars and James about me and David[Ellefson, MEGADETH bassist] doing a supergroup record with Lars andJames. Well, James said ‘no,’ but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.”

Mustaine had been in Metallica prior to their debut album, but was fired after a number of altercations involving Mustaine’s then-raging alcohol problem. Four songs on Metallica’s debut, Kill ‘Em All, and two on Ride the Lightning were co-written by Mustaine. He has since rekindled his friendship with Ulrich and Hetfield, so we’ll see if he can make this supergroup happen!
